Back in Park City, Utah, one of my first jobs was as a carpenter building timber lodge-style homes. In those days, skiing was my main passion, so working hard to play hard was a way of life. While constructing from drawings and concepts, I learned that I have a natural ability to visualize the way things go together. The reward of seeing something constructed with my own hands became a source of satisfaction for me. During that time, I helped construct around 50 new custom homes and multiple additions, as well as a number of remodels.
In my twenties, I joined the Navy and spent several years abroad, mainly in Europe, as an aviation crash and salvage rescue man for NATO forces. I spent much of that time traveling and exploring other cultures. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, I returned to my roots in construction and joined a large corporation as the construction superintendent. After several years of working with that large company, I realized that my true talent and passion was for creating custom and distinct spaces and finding creative solutions to construction challenges.
I created Vertical Construction Group in 2009 when I moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend UW’s Construction Management Program, with the goal of building a general contracting company that produces high-quality and enduring workmanship for large and small residential construction projects.
